On May 4th, 2017 the Edmonton community will join together for Have a Heart for Mental Health presented by Angus Watt Advisory Group and National Bank Financial to provide homes to individuals and families living with mental illness or low income.
This year is CMHA-Edmonton’s 10th annual gala dinner and they need your help to reach their fundraising goal of $50,000! By purchasing tickets, sponsoring, or volunteering at this event, you will be assisting CMHA-Edmonton in providing direct support to individuals affected by mental illness and their families. Don’t underestimate the power of a simple meal, a roof over your head, or the impact of stability on mental health. The event’s cocktail reception begins at 6:00pm followed by a 3-course dinner at 7:00pm.
Time and time again, mental illness, addictions and poverty have been found to correlate with homelessness. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. With the right services, properly housing people and providing supports can offer the stability needed for recovery.
According to the research completed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada two narratives exist about the impacts of housing on mental wellbeing. One is that many Canadians with mental illness are unable to acquire adequate housing, and the tremendously detrimental effect this has on their physical and mental health. The second story tells us that this does not need to be the case, as we have the right ingredients to properly house people and provide recovery-oriented supports. http://www.mentalhealthcommission.ca/…/PrimaryCare_Turning_…
